A 60-day journey circling the Land Down Under was terminated following the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The ship left without her and came back later that day after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" banning any additional guests from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

Chronology of Occurrences

The ship initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the voyage.

Travelers on the ship - who typically pay large sums of currency to join the cruise - were taken there for a day trip with the choice of walking or snorkeling.

Family Response

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left the location after an organised outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited details we have been told, it looks that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have undertaken that might have preserved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot day, and mother fell ill on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, apparently without performing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or shortly after, mother died, without company."

Company Position

Via official communication, the CEO verified that the operator was "working closely with officials to aid their examination".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the relatives.

Maritime Business Procedures

The ship serves up to 120 guests with forty-six staff, according to corporate details. It was specially constructed to access remote areas of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "tenders" - minor craft used to take travelers on land visits.

Incidents like this are uncommon, and liners have systems to record which individuals are boarding or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] onboard just isn't an option," one expert commented.

Cruise lines regard these procedures very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such events from occurring," the expert continued.

"This appears to be probably a shocking - and sad - one-off."
