Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
