Jon Ruben confessed to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on Friday

A man who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males aged nine and 10.

The accused was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
