Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
